I’m struggling, y’all.
We took a quick weekend trip back up to our old stomping grounds in South Bend. We had an absolute blast, but got back late Sunday night and my life feels so off-balance right now. It’s almost like I need a vacation to recover from vacation.
And, I will have one — I fly out Friday to spend a weekend in Ft. Myers with my two best friends! But, there’s almost no down time to relax and get organized before then. Is this what the life of a jet setter is like? Because I’m not sure I could handle it.
The exhaustion is well worth it though because we packed so much fun into our short visit to Michiana. We drove up on Saturday for the last On the River beach bash. The event is run solely by volunteers and helps raise money for Center for the Homeless. The banks of the St. Joe River are transformed into a beach, complete with tiki huts, sand and live music.
We spent the night sipping island-themed drinks, dancing barefoot and tossing an enormous beach ball around. Spending time with so many of our close-knit friends made for an amazing time. It was like a mini reunion.
Sadly, the beach bash won’t continue because high-rise apartments are being built along the river. I’m sad to see such a fun party that supports a great cause ending.
On Sunday, we headed to brunch and then out to float down the Dowagiac River. We went on the same float trip last year right before we moved to Bloomington and it is one of our fondest memories of our time living up north. This time around, however, will definitely not be remembered the same way. I’ll spare you all of the details, but James lost his glasses and GoPro along the way.
We didn’t let that put a damper on our weekend. And, our amazing hosts made sure we were having nonstop fun.
Visiting Molly and Ang is always such a pleasure because they’ve become two of our closest friends. They treat us like royalty every time we take over their guest room — it’s like staying at the world’s cutest B&B!
Not only did Molly have cookies waiting for us in the room, she had the fridge and pantry stocked with snacks for the weekend (including some of the best spinach artichoke dip ever). She truly thinks of everything!
We took them a couple bottles of our favorite Oliver Winery drinks as a small token of our appreciation. Now I just have to get them down to Bloomington so they can try all of them!
