Friday Favorites

Hi, friends! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA all week. The past two weeks have been pretty hectic personally and professionally, so I honestly just needed a short break. I started this blog as a creative outlet; I want it to remain a passion and not a chore. But, I promise to have some delicious recipes coming your way next week!

Today I’m kicking off a new weekly series where I share some of my favorite things from the week. Several other bloggers I follow do something similar on Fridays and I love hearing about new things they’re trying — it often leads me to do the same! I hope you enjoy this weekly feature.

Goose The Market

I’d been to Goose the Market in Indianapolis to grab sandwiches and specialty items to go, but I had no idea they have a cellar where you can enjoy drinks and some of their delicious meats and cheeses. We spent some times with friends there Sunday and had a blast chatting while sipping wine and demolishing some charcuterie. I love the laid back, quiet atmosphere. It was the perfect spot for catching up with friends!

Melvin Brewing

Two of our amazing and generous friends brought us a massive amount of beer and liquor from Wyoming when they stopped in Bloomington over the holidays. We’ve made our way through most of it and I’ve become obsessed with Melvin Brewing. Every beer they brought from this brewery was amazing, but the Melvin IPA was my favorite. I’m sad we can’t get these brews locally, but I can’t wait to stock up when we road trip West this summer!

Bourbon Vanilla Extract

My mom put this specialty vanilla extract in my stocking this year and I’ve been using it nonstop in baking projects! It adds an extra level of flavor to sweets and is especially good in banana bread or a simple vanilla buttercream. I’m going to have to stock up next time we visit my brother and sister-in-law!

Bush Sisters Write Another Letter To Obama Sisters

The news cycle has been pretty crazy lately — and that’s coming from someone who’s used to the nonstop information. But, the letter Jenna and Barbara Bush wrote to Sasha and Malia made me smile. It contains advice we could all use reminders of every once in a while. These lines especially jumped out to me: “Continue to surround yourself with loyal friends who know you, adore you and will fiercely protect you. Those who judge you don’t love you, and their voices shouldn’t hold weight. Rather, it’s your own hearts that matter.” We are all so eager for the approval of others that we can sometimes lose sight of what really matters. What a sweet, heartfelt letter.
