Friday Favorites 3/24

Happy Friday! I hope your week went by quickly and you have a couple days of fun planned. Life is still pretty busy for me, so I’m looking forward to a weekend with few plans. As usual, I’m sharing some of my favorite things from the week with you today. Feel free to comment below and tell me what you’re loving lately!

DIY Vanity

I’d been wanting to setup a vanity in our guest room for quite some time and my mom helped me come up with the perfect solution. She brought over this antique dress she refinished for me when I was in college, and James and I found a giant, gold mirror to hang above it at a local antique shop. Because our house only has one bathroom, I thought it would be nice for guests to have some space of their own to get ready in each day. I’m so happy with how this turned out! Now we’re just on the hunt for a cushion to add to that chair.

Breaking Away

After living in Bloomington for more than two years, I finally saw Breaking Away this week. I absolutely loved it! If you’re not familiar with the movie, it’s set in Bloomington and centers around a group of four local friends who end up competing against Indiana University students in the famous Little 500. The humor is great and it’s so neat to see a town I love so much depicted in a movie. I have a feeling watching this every spring is going to become a tradition of ours.

Korean-style Pork and Rice

I decided to make this recipe from a recent Cooking Light for dinner one night and it was a hit. James and I kept raving about how delicious and filling this meal was. I did have to go to a specialty grocery store to find the gochujang sauce, but it was worth the hunt. The meal came together really quickly and the leftovers were great in lunches. I plan to make this again next week!

Myfitnesspal

I’ve been trying to eat healthier, so I’ve been using the free app Myfitnesspal to keep a log of all my meals. I’m trying to cut back significantly on carbs and sugar and increase the amount of protein I eat. This app makes keeping track of it all pretty easy. Many brand-name foods are already included in Myfitnesspal’s database and I can access my food log on my phone or on a computer. At the end of the day, it tells you “If you ate like this everyday, you’d weigh ___ lbs. in 5 weeks.” I really love that feature because it’s a big motivator for me. It’s not all about the number on the scale, but it helps me understand better how the fuel I choose impacts my body.
