Lessons from Mom

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! You deserve to be celebrated everyday because of all you do.

I’m lucky enough to call my mom my best friend. She’s one of the most selfless people I know and is constantly putting others first. No surprise, she told me not to make the trip home this weekend so I could spend time relaxing after a stressful week. That’s so like my mom.

I’ve learned so much from my mom over the years — the saying “mother is always right” seems to ring true, even when I don’t want it to. She’s the first person I go to for advice and it’s usually spot on.

Here are some of the very valuable lessons she’s taught me over the years:

Always write a thank you card for every job interview, gift, or act of kindness someone bestows upon you.

Having a group of good girlfriends makes life easier — and so much more fun.

Reading is good for the mind and the soul.

Always have quarters handy for family gatherings so you’re prepared for some friendly betting over card games.

Swimming laps is not only great exercise, but one of the best ways to clear your mind.

When someone’s going through a tough time, make them lasagna.

It’s not a birthday without a homemade cake.

Send postcards to family and friends when you visit new places.

Always put family first.

Happy Mother’s Day, mom!
