Review: Cravings Cookbook

It’s only Wednesday and my fridge is full of enough food to last us through the weekend. I’ve been cooking up a storm ever since buying Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings cookbook a few weeks ago. I broke down and bought it after reading several rave reviews and drooling over her delicious Instagram.

I’m one of those people who reads cookbooks cover to cover. I think the best cookbooks are those that not only expertly explain technique, but that also tell the story behind each recipe. Cravings delivers in both categories.

One of the reasons I’m such a fan of the cookbook is because I love Chrissy Teigen’s sense of humor, which shines through in the pages. From the introduction to the photos, this cookbook made me laugh just as much as it made me drool. Only Chrissy Teigen and John Legend could make a plate of fried chicken look sexy.

The cookbook has a good balance of indulgent and everyday recipes that are easy to prepare regardless of your skill level. It features Teigen’s take on classic recipes like mac and cheese, fried chicken and bacon, as well as traditional Thai foods she grew up eating. If you’re a fan of spicy food, you’ll find plenty of recipes to test your limits.

If you make one thing out of this cookbook, it should be the sweet and salty coconut rice (similar recipe here). This simple dish is amazingly delicious and incredibly versatile. It’s wonderful served alone, but I like it best served as a base to soak up a saucy and spicy chicken or beef dish, like the Chipotle-Honey Chicken with Mango-Avocado Salsa. I also can’t get enough of the Sriracha Caesar Salad, which I’ve been packing for lunches all week. They’re all dishes I’m sure will show up in our dinner rotation again in the very near future.

I highly recommend Cravings for those who love to cook and enjoy trying unique foods. This cookbook truly has something for every tastebud!
