A Weekend In Minneapolis

Is it really only Tuesday? I can already tell this week is going to be a long one. That’s probably because I wish the weekend would have never ended!

I spent a three-day weekend visiting one of my best friends, Zach, in his new home of Minneapolis. I’d never visited the city before and had a blast exploring. And, I couldn’t have picked a better February weekend to go — it was in the 60s Saturday so we didn’t even have to wear coats while we were out and about all day.

On Friday night we headed out to what Zach believed was a local dive bar but ended up being a super nice place, Icehouse. We sat upstairs and had an amazing view of the live music that was playing. We ordered a couple of drinks and some appetizers — the empanadas were amazing. After that we headed out for a night on the town, ending up at a true dive bar called Mortimer’s.

Zach and I always have a blast and it was  so much fun just to sit around talking and catching up. We haven’t gotten to spent time together one-on-one since college, so it was long overdue!

On Saturday Zach showed me the amazing place he works, Animal Humane Society, before we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and explore the historic Stone Arch Bridge. We walked around all day and it felt amazing!

We walked across the Stone Arch and Grain Belt bridges and hiked along the river. I was really impressed by how many different trails there were to check out.

The rest of the day was spent hopping to a few different bars for drinks and a dinner of amazing bottomless guacamole at Rosa Mexicano. We even got a pedicab ride from someone dressed like Batman, which may have been the highlight of the weekend. He was playing amazing music along the way, including plenty of Britney Spears and Destiny’s Child. It was an experience to remember!

The weekend was an absolute blast and I was so sad to be heading home on Sunday. I’m already trying to plan another trip back this summer because Zach is the best host and I know there’s so much more to explore in Minneapolis.

The only downside of such a quick trip is I felt like there was no time to recover and get organized for the week ahead. The fact that our water heater broke and flooded our kitchen doesn’t help! We’re without water until the plumber arrives this morning, which is much harder than I imagined. Here’s hoping the rest of the week goes more smoothly — it only gets better after Monday, right?
